(please ignore crappy photo quality above and focus on the cute 4 year old!)
When and how did this happen? How did my baby girl, little Miss Tate, all of a sudden become a big old 4 year old?!?!?
Why does time have to go so fast? It's insane how fast time passes as I get older. I sound whiney. But don't get me wrong, I'm loving every single stage/age that we go through. And, let's be honest, some more than others (3 STUNK worse than 2... I'm hoping 4 will be a "reasoning" year). Tate wanted to have a party at her house for the big 4th. I started off letting her know that since she was turning 4, she could invite 4 friends! Sounds simple enough, right? WRONG. You can't invite friends and not your cousins? They are friends, too, right? So since they are family, we decided that they do not contribute to the 4 friends rule... Well, we have a big family. BIG. And with the addition of cousins, let's bring that # right up to ohhhh... 12 kids. (and that's not even all of the kid cousins...there are more!) HOLY COW. Talk about one insane momma... but one happy 4 year old! That's all that matters in the end, right?
The big girl got to spend the night before with her Meemaw and Peepaw, so she was just as happy as could be about that! They brought her home right before her party, and she ran upstairs to get herself ready. She chose her yellow dress and Sunday shoes because she wanted to dress like Fern from Charlotte's Web. She also insisted on wearing her princess tiara from her good friend Brooklynn, since she was the party princess that day. She looked oh so beautiful and oh so grown up...
Tate is very into rainbows right now. She can draw BEAUTIFUL rainbows, and makes sure to use every color. She draws them on paper, she paints them, she draws them with chalk on her easel, she even draws them on the driveway and patio with her chalk now that the weather is staying nicer. So, what better theme for her party than to make it a rainbow color theme. I am not so keen on themes for parties... I think it just means more $$$... so I figured this one would be fine, just colors. And it made her happy! So to go with the colors... I for some reason equate rainbow colors with carnivals... go figure. So we had carnival like games (thanks to the wonderful Becky Smart, my mom, aka - Meemaw) and musical stars, pin the tail on the donkey, bean bag toss, hokey pokey, the chicken dance, tossing into buckets, the clothespin and the jar game, etc.
We also had the little party animals decorate their own cupcakes as they were arriving... of course we HAD to have SOME sort of crafty/artsy thing to do ;) This, in hindsight, was QUITE messy and should have been thought out just a tad more on my part... But, again, the kids loved it, so, so do I!
After cupcakes and games, it was time for cake! Tate's cake was THEE coolest cake, I have to say! If I had been more prepared (who am I kidding, ME, prepared???) I think it would have turned out even better - like not the Leaning Tower of Pisa replica that it actually was... But, oh well. It looked so cool. It was a RAINBOW cake!
But you didn't know that until you cut into it.
6 layers! ROYGBIV (minus the I), all coated and separated by home made cream cheese frosting.... DELISH! IT was just 2 boxes of white cake, separated into 6 pans and mixed with coordinating food coloring, and VOILAH! Rainbow cake! After the cake, of course were presents. Tate was spoiled and loved on tremendously by some very sweet friends and family, we are so lucky!
And after presents, it was time to go home. The party girl was pooped, and so were her parents! But what a great birthday party...
...next year, we are thinking about taking a "birthday trip", and she can bring one friend
her brother :)
